You may follow the following steps to create a Google Home speaker pair. The two speakers must be connected to the same router. You may follow this guide to change the WiFi network for Google Home devices. So, paring two Googe Home speakers and grouping multiple Google Home speakers and Chromecast devices are for different purposes. One Google Home device can only be in up to one speaker pair.
Your music and audio from Chromecast-enabled apps are instantly available to stream. Most Bluetooth speakers and Bluetooth headphones support pairing with more than one device at a time. You can even restart the two Google Home speakers together. For example, on Google Home app, you can find the pair we just created. If you want the other one to be the left speaker, you can tap Right. In the Google Home app, you can locate the two speakers to be used.
After tapping the speaker pair, the Home app will ask you to confirm the operation, as shown above. The two Google Home speakers must share one common Google account. And this Google account owner create the speaker pair. The speaker pair combines two Google Home speakers into one stereo speaker. The speaker pair will replace two Google Home speakers.
Unify your Google Home smart speakers
For speaker groups, one Google Home speaker or Chromecast device can be in many groups. The speaker group functions as a group of individual devices. After adding your speakers, click the “Save” button to create the group. This should also generate a new entry at the bottom of the Devices page, though I had to close the Home app and re-open it for this new card to show up.

No you can’t create speaker groups in HA…at least it’s not something I’ve seen done before. But as you said you can create groups using the Google Home app. You should be able to cast any music service to a speaker group, not just Youtube TV. My speaker group in the last few days has been ruined as well. Linking multiple speakers together without the group involved is also broken. I have a bunch of native Google hardware and a Sony soundbar.
You cannot control individual Google Home speakers in a speaker pair. On the contrary, you can individually control and use each device in a speaker group. Google initially introduced this feature exclusively to Google Home Max.
What is Google Home Speaker Pair (stereo pairing)?
For this example, we’re using the latter option. To add a device to a room, open the Google Home app for iPhone, iPad, or Android and go to the “Devices” tab. Provide your account email address to receive an email to reset your password.
When setting up a stereo pair, the Echo with Clock, Echo Kids and Echo Dot are all interchangeable. And you can always go back and change the wake word at any point. Grouping your devices in rooms means you can control those rooms by referring to them. If you have grouped devices in a room labeled “bedroom” you can say “Hey Google, turn off the bedroom lights” from anywhere. Tap “New Device” for any Google Home or Chromecast-enabled device, or tap “Works With Google” for external devices like Philips Hue or Kasa.
